Thanmayee Krishnamurthy is an award-winning Karnatak (South Indian classical) vocalist with over 30 years of training and performance experience. Born into a family of musicians, she began her musical journey under the guidance of her mother, Vidushi.  Rajalakshmi and continues to study with the eminent vocalist and scholar, Vidwan. T.M. Krishna. Thanmayee is a regular performer on prestigious stages across India and internationally. She has had the honor of singing for the former President of India, Smt. Pratibha Patil, at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi during the Government of India’s National Conference on Education. 

Awards and Achievements: 

● Texas Folklife Apprenticeship Award from Texas Folklife, Austin, TX.  

● Received Multiple Grants from University of North Texas, College of Music for her 

research work on Karnatak music.  

● “Smt. T.Brinda- Endowment Award” - by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai. 

● Yuva Kala Mani – by Mani Krishnaswamy Academy, Mangalore. 

● “Ananya Prathibhe” from Ananya, Bengaluru.  

● M S Subbulakshmi Award – by Brahmara Trust, Mysore. 

● Winner of All India Radio competition.  

● Central Government Scholarship Recipient by CCRT.

● Released a Bhavageethe (which is a form of expressionist poetry) album in 2012.  

● Released a Karnatak album “Sharanam” in 2016. 

● Released “Kagga Lahari,” an album presenting select verses from DVG’s Mankutimmana Kagga in Karnatak rāgas in 2020.  

● Collaborated with eminent Bharatanatyam dancers (Indian classical dance) in composing music for several dance and theater productions.  

● Lent her voice for south Indian commercial ads and jingles.

Thanmayee has given many lectures introducing Indian music to the undergrad and graduate students at

5. Major private organizations in the USA, UAE and India. 

For the past decade, Thanmayee has been teaching Karnatak music privately in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, nurturing a vibrant community of young musicians. In 2019, she founded Suswana.guru, a learning platform dedicated to reimagining music education through innovative pedagogy. The platform offers thoughtfully designed workshops, curated concerts, and collaborative projects that enrich the learning experience for students of Karnatak music. Many of her students now actively perform at local events across the Dallas area, reflecting her commitment to mentoring the next generation of musicians.
